Denver Post: A long-lost Shakespearean mural restored DU 2014

"For more than 80 years, the celebrated Colorado artist John E. Thompson's luminous Art Nouveau Shakespeare mural languished under countless layers of cheap paint slapped on by stage crews who often had no idea that the obliterated mural ever existed."

Channel 9 News Interview Nov 2010

"From her tiny studio in her Westminster home. Lisa Capano is bringing life back to some communities affected by the four mile wildfire. The fire destroyed more than 170 homes and damaged much more. 9 News Storyteller Kevin Torres shows us, it's Lisa's job to make sure that even small things are restored with the simple stroke of a cotton swab."

University of Denver

Dear Lisa:

I am very pleased to offer this letter of recommendation with respect to your services as a paintings conservator. Please feel free to share these comments with others as well.

Your work with the cleaning and restoration of the 1929 Shakespeare Mural by John E. Thompson has helped us to recover an irreplaceable aspect of DU’s artistic heritage. The unusual nature of the project, in which you provide on-site supervision and training for conservation students, requires an extraordinary degree of flexibility and patience. You have also dealt admirably with the ever-changing schedules dictated by the use of the Little Theatre as a classroom and theatrical production space. Your participation has been cost-effective, helping us to leverage our limited financial resources.

Of course, the most important recommendation is in connection with the final quality of the work. Watching the first sections of in-painting over the past several weeks has been most exciting, and shows that our long efforts on this project will bear fruit in a wonderful way. Thanks for sticking with us through the first 18 months of the project. It might take us another year or two, but I look forward to toasting completion with you someday!

With very best regards,
Dan Jacobs

Leanin' Tree

Lisa,

I want to thank you again for the excellent restoration and conservation work you recently completed on the Leanin’ Tree collection of oil paintings.

As you know, the Leanin’ Tree Museum of Western Art is one of the largest private collections of post-1950s western, wildlife and landscape art in the state of Colorado. We are privileged to host over thirty thousand visitors annually. And we just recently published Leanin’ Tree: Art and Enterprise in the American West to document the collection.

Needless to say, it is extremely important to have the best possible restoration and conservation for this invaluable collection. Following an intensive search, my father and I are confident that we hired the best. Your training, knowledge, skill, professionalism, and wise advice are all superlative. Plus, you are a pleasure to work with and joy to have on the team. I would be pleased to serve as a reference to potential clients.

Looking forward to working with you for many years,
Tom Trumble
President
